Über Mich
Joa Herrenknecht is a young female designer based in Berlin.
In summer 2010 Joa finished her master studies in Product Design at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe, Germany - visiting classes of Prof. Volker Albus, Werner Aisslinger, James Irvine and Stefan Diez. After graduating she moved to New York - working as an assistant for Studio Dror in Manhattan. In 2011 Joa attended a full time post-grad course in graphic and packaging design in Sydney, Australia, receiving a second degree as a graphic designer. Subsequently wanting to start her own business, the designer moved back to Germany and started her own company in Berlin: Design Studio Joa Herrenknecht. Working on graphic, interior and product design projects, she is now establishing the Studio with her wonderful international team. Having been nominated for the prestigious German Design Award 2014 and being part of the 22 young talents selected and presented at 'D3 Contest' at IMM Cologne, earlier this year - the Studio is steadily growing to be a new highlight in Berlins creative scene.
Joa's pre-Work experiences include working at a Carpentry, an Architecture Studio, Studio Luigi Colani, Studio Patricia Urquiola (Milan, Italy 2006/7), Studio Dror (New York, USA 2010). As an independent designer she has been working for WMF, Nanoo (CH), kr design GmbH, Bolia (DK) and Design Within Reach/ DWR (USA), as well as privately commissioned work on interior and graphic design.
Joas very first product the lamp collection NEST, received the red dot winner award 2012.
Joa - which is short for Joanita - was born in Saskatoon, Canada and raised in the South-West of Germany (Black Forest) near the french border. She has South American and German roots, speaks English, German, French, Spanish and some Italian.. so feel free to contact the Studio for project based inquiries or collaborations.
